The Steel Path is NOT endgame. DE have said multiple times that this update is NOT to be associated with the word "endgame". It's goal is to simply provide higher level content and some cosmetic rewards. The incentive to play The Steel Path are the higher level enemies - NOT the rewards. While I personally have enjoyed the Steel Path so far(8 planets in), I foresee a big problem with the mode's longevity. At the current reward rate (low Steel Essence/Riven Sliver drop rates) I think most players will be done w/ the mode once they've cleared the Star Chart, and likely not touch it again outside of certain fan-favorite nodes like Mot, Hydron, etc.
